Laura Jane Hill

BERGLAND, Mich. - Laura Jane Hill, 97, of Bergland, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Eveleth, Minn., on Dec. 28, 1915, to the late George and Laura (Mortenson) Perham. Laura attended schools in Eveleth, Ely and Wolf, Minn. She graduated college from the University of Minnesota.

On June 18, 1943, Laura was united in marriage to the late Herman Oscar Hill in Eveleth.

She taught school in Bergland and Pontiac before returning to teach in Bergland and White Pine schools. Laura taught school from 1940 to 1981.

She was a member of the Bergland United Methodist Church; served on the Bergland Commission of Aging, Bergland United Methodist Women's Group as secretary and chair person from 1983 to 2001, Gogebic Senior Citizens Club during the 1980s as secretary, chair and treasurer; and was a member of the Historical Museum of Bergland.

Laura is survived by her son, Forrest (Barbara) Hill; granddaughter, Rhonda (Steven) Gregorek; great-grandchildren, Christian and Jacob Gregorek, and McGwire and Dayne Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Gregory Hill; sisters, Dorothy, Perdita, Marijore and Geraldine; and brothers, George and James.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. EST at Bergland United Methodist Church in Bergland. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. EST until the time of the service.  Burial will be in the Lake Side Cemetery of Bergland. Pallbearers will be Leslie, Larry and Dale Newhouse, Rodney Sr. and Rodney Jr. Ellsworth, Leonard Johnson and honorary pallbearer Ralph Fruik.

Memorials may be made to the Bergland United Methodist Church, Bergland Senior Center or Marquette General Hospice of Delta County.
