Animal shelter encourages adoption with special rates

ONTONAGON - Ontonagon County Animal Protection is encouraging adoption of its available animals by offering special fees for black or black and white animals in January.

"Many of our cats are solid black or black and white, and both our current dogs are black," said Janet Wolfe, an OCAP spokesperson. "With life getting back to normal after the holidays, it's a good time to offer special adoption pricing. All our animals are healthy and friendly, so it's just a matter of meeting them and seeing if you click."

The shelter has two medium, mixed-breed black dogs, six black cats and kittens and three black-and-white kittens eligible for special rates. Adoption fees include basic vaccinations and spaying or neutering.

"OCAP doesn't have enough volunteers to be open regular hours, but the cat and dog coordinators are always happy to arrange an appointment at a time convenient for you with no expectation that you will adopt an animal," Wolfe said.

Anyone interested in visiting the shelter animals can leave a message at the shelter at 906-884-2500 or contact dog coordinator Dayle Labine at 906-231-0776 or Wolfe for cats at 906-884-2429.
