Anthony E. 'Tony' DeZur

ASHLAND, Wis. — Anthony E. “Tony” DeZur, 59, of Hurley, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Ashland.

He was born Sept. 4, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ashland, son of Mary Margaret (Metos) and Thomas DeZur.

Tony attended Hurley schools, graduating from J.E. Murphy High School with the class of 1972. Tony worked all his life at local area business concerns. Most recently, he had worked at the Cary Mine Convenience Store, retiring from there in March 2013 due to ill health. He had also tended bar for over 40 years at various taverns in the Hurley and Saxon area.

On Nov. 24, 1986, he was united in marriage with Loretta Vittone in Ashland. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his father, Thomas V. DeZur, on June 3, 1983; and one brother, David DeZur, on Nov. 10, 1981.

Tony is survived be his mother, Mary M. DeZur, of Hurley; two stepsons, Craig (Kathleen) Vittone, of Ashland, and Jay (Cindy) Vittone, of Mellen; two sisters, Shirley (David) Smith, of Helena, Mont., and Patricia (William) Ahola, of Montreal; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and special friends, Tom and Sue Thomas, of Montreal.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley. The Rev. Frank Kordek OFM will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Spring burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hurley.
