Mercer, Wis., School girls in grades 1-5 formed a team, Girlz in Motion, and particpated in a 5-kilometer run in Minocqua on May 31. The group was formed as part of the Girls on the Run of the Northwoods program, a nonprofit organization that "inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident," according to a spokesperson. "The goal is to empower girls to have a strong sense of identity, give and receive support from a group, have a healthy body image, stand up for themselves in a healthy manner and understand their importance in the community."
