Sharon L. Salonen

BERGLAND, Mich. – Sharon L. Salonen, 74, of Bergland, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, surrounded by her loving husband and family by her side.

Sharon was born on March 4, 1940, in Reed City, a daughter of Ora and Goldie (Richert) Borton. She attended Bergland Community High School and graduated in 1958.

On Aug. 20, 1960, Sharon was united in marriage to Ernest V. Salonen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and watching the Detroit Tigers.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Ernest; five children, Ernest Salonen Jr. (Julie), Wakefield, Debra (Stephen) Mleko, Marquette, Penny (John Colassaco) Paquin and Diana Holst, both of Montreal, Wis., and Tammy (James) Perry, Ironwood; 10 grandchildren, Stacey (Dominic Trolla) Paquin, Tracey (Shane) Wiercinski, Rachel (Clint Kordus) Holst, Jordan Holst, Kelly (Ryan Hering) Salonen, Jamie Salonen and Stephen, Matthew, Jacob and Hannah Mleko; a great-grandson, Jaxon Wiercinski; six stepgrandchildren, Nick and Alex Hahn and John Jr., Josh, Jacob and Natalle' Colassaco; two sisters, Sandra (Reino) Mattson, Ironwood, and Patricia (David) Tompkins, Tustin; her sister-in-law, Kay Sikkila, Covington; her brother-in-law, Paul (Karen) Salonen, Bergland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Paul Borton; her father- and mother-in-law, Ernest E. and Ida Salonen; and her brother-in-law, Harold Sikkila.

Per Sharon's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. EDT, preceded by visitation at 3 p.m. EDT, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergland, with the Rev. Timothy J. Steckling officiating.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bergland.

A dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall following the cemetery service.
