Hurley students art projects displayed in Human Services building in Madison

HURLEY - Fifteen Hurley students had art pieces displayed at the Wisconsin Department of Human Resources building in Madison from Aug. 10 through Oct. 3.

According to art teacher Terry Davis, the idea for the art display came after Hurley alumna Julie Morello contacted Davis about having students' art displayed in the building.

Morello is a DHS employee and asked if pieces from Hurley could be used in the building.

Davis said the timing for the display was perfect, after students had participated in a local art show through the Range Art Association in Hurley.

"The pieces were all set," Davis said.

Twenty-three pieces were sent to Madison, and according to Davis, she would have sent more if the display had more space available.

DHS has featured an art program since 2010, featuring work from more than 30 artists and groups, including schools in Madison, Green Bay and Delevan.

Hurley students sent a wide variety of pieces, including photography, collagraph print, scratchboard, pastel, charcoal, pencil, marker and mixed media.

"The kids did a great job," Davis said.
