Lake Gogebic businesses raise funds for snowmobile trail upkeep

James Eismueller, owner of the Walleye Lodge in Bergland, has been coming snowmobiling to the Upper Peninsula for almost 30 years.

Two years ago he purchased the Walleye Lodge in Bergland and when he was unpacking his belongings he uncovered a snowmobile bandanna from the area that he had been carrying around with him for at least 20 years.

He thought it was such a great idea and way to promote the area that with the support of 20 local business partners, a new 2014 Lake Gogebic Area snowmobile bandanna was developed.

The bandannas were sold at 20 local businesses throughout Lake Gogebic, Ewen, Bruce Crossing, Watersmeet and Rockland.

A portion of every bandanna sold went to the Gogebic Area Groomers, Inc., which last year groomed almost 28,000 miles of snowmobile trails and logged in about 4,000 man-hours.

A check for nearly $1,000 was presented to the Gogebic Area Grooming, Inc. Monday on behalf of those 20 sponsors with sincere gratitude.

The bandanas will be sold again this year at participating businesses, according to a release.
