John D. Erm

MARQUETTE - John D. Erm, 84, of Marquette, died Friday evening, Oct. 10, 2014, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where he had been a resident for a few days.

John was born on Oct. 30, 1929, in Leeds, Mass., a son of John D. and Emma (Dussault) Erm.

He was a 1947 graduate of Luther L. Wright High School of Ironwood and a 1956 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a degree in business administration.

John proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1948-'52, spending one year in Korea.

He worked in Duluth, Minn., with the U.S. Air Force Audit Agency from 1956-'59, then moved to Marquette to work at K.I, Sawyer Air Force Base where he eventually became Chief Area Audit Officer. He retired in 1988.

John served on the supervisory committee of the U.P. Catholic Credit Union from 1983-2011. He was a member and past president of Chapter 1900 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member of Msgr. Nolan B. McKevitt Knights of Columbus Council 689, as well as American Legion Post 44 in Marquette, and St. Michael Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Mary Ann Christianson, of Menominee, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1956, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Birch Creek; four daughters, Barbara Erm, Nancy Erm and Sue (Greg) Britton, all of Marquette, and Julie (Scott) Wilson, of Pine River, Wis .; three grandchildren, Adam (Amber) Hall, Jeri and James Britton; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Lilah Hall; three step-grandchildren, Bill (Erin) Britton, Katie Wilson and Maggie Wilson; three step-great-grandchildren, Aidan, Colin and Ethan Britton; two sisters, Patricia Lewinski of Milwaukee, Wis., and Madelyn Sobolewski of Grantsburg, Wis .; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home, with the Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A luncheon will take place immediately following the service in the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2119 Presque Isle Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 or Room at the Inn, 347 Rock St., Marquette, MI 49855 in Mr. Erm's memory.
