William G. Murra

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich.- William G. Murra, 87, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

He was born on April 24, 1927, in Ironwood, the son of the late Edward and Julia (Jarpko) Murra.

Bill graduated from St. Ambrose High School, in Ironwood, in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Okinawa, Japan, and the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

On July 1, 1950, he married Joan Westergreen at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. The couple moved to Iron Mountain in 1950. She preceded him in death in 2006.

Bill worked at OK Auto Supply for 47 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked for 12 years at ERA Chevrolet in Norway. Bill enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Bill loved being in the woods, hunting and cutting firewood. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Bill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 and the United Sportsmen's Club.

He is survived five children, Jo Ann (Larry) Johnson, Diane (Dave) Warmuth and Patrick (Helen) Murra, all of Iron Mountain, Bill Murra, of Sagola, and Jason Murra, of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Deanna (Brent) Price, of Port Angeles, Wash., Dustin Warmuth, of Iron Mountain, Shawna (Nick) Tratty, of Florida, Jeremy (Carrie) Johnson, of Lake Odessa, Michael Murra, of Wausau, Wis., and Marcus Murra, of Iron Mountain; great-grandchildren, Polly Price, Riley and Cailyn Johnson, Evan and Ava Tratty and Adalynn Murra; two sisters, Betty Vukesich, of Bessemer and Charlotte Varden, of Ironwood; two brothers, Bernard Murra, of Rhinelander and Jim (Marilyn) Murra, of Hurley; and many nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by two children, Mary and John Murra; two sisters, Regina Holger and Margaret Lockhart; and two brothers, Edward Murra and Eugene (Irene) Murra.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor James Kaczmarek will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Copper-Johnson American Legion Post #50.
