Riders advised to watch for trail groomers

With snowmobile trails opening Monday, the Western U.P. Convention and Visitor Bureau urges riders to be on the lookout for groomers.

With 92 inches of snow already, there's plenty of snow to groom on the high terrain, but the swamps are still full of water.

"Pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them," the bureau advised.

Riders are also encouraged to stay on marked trails, so area snowmobile clubs don't run the risk of losing landowner easements.

Riding on private property can also result in tickets being issued.

The bureau's new website is explorewesternup.com and the office has moved to 405 N. Lake St., Ironwood.
