Clara Yatchak

WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Clara Yatchak, 95, joined her fellow angels on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, in the capable and caring hands at Gogebic Medical Care Facility, where she had been a resident for 11 years.

Clara lived in Wakefield her entire life, born March 20, 1919, to Henry and Margaret (Hill) Lepisto, who migrated to Wakefield from Finland. She attended Wakefield schools and graduated with the class of 1936.

Although Clara went to school in Marquette for cosmetology, she would mostly be remembered to a certain generation as the beautiful, sweet lady behind the counter at George Cavender’s People’s Store who patiently sold them penny candy.

Clara was also a very versatile homemaker, known for her baking, candy-making and crafts, including beautiful quilts.

In later years, true to her roots, she became involved in activities at Little Finland, enjoying the singing and dancing in her native costume.

Clara was a faithful member of All Saints Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and participating in all church activities.

Many will remember the tiny lady who walked diligently, regardless of weather.

Clara is survived by a grandson, Mark Yatchak, who is with Homeland Security in Alaska; her daughter-in-law, Margo (Krznarich) Yatchak, Marquette; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isadore; a son, Brian; four sisters, Julia, Verna, Eleanore and Flora; and two brothers, Bill and Adolph.

A memorial service will be held in the spring and Clara will be interred next to her husband in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeside Memorial Chapel, Wakefield, Jerald Rocco, owner-manager. Condolences may be sent online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
