Margaret A. 'Peg' Borseth

BERGLAND, Mich. - Margaret A. "Peg" Borseth, 99, a longtime resident of Bergland, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.

Margaret was born on Sept. 21, 1915, in Belleville, Wis., a daughter of Charles Justin and Augusta Emma (Grillot) Menigoz. The family moved to Topaz in 1918 to the family farm. She attended Topaz School, then Bergland School and graduated from Ewen High School in 1933.

Peg met the love of her life, Walter J. Borseth in Bergland.  On June 15, 1934, they were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ewen. Walt and Peg made their home in Bergland for a little more than 69 years.

Peg was a cherished wife, devoted mother and a wonderful homemaker for her six children. During that time and until her golden heart stopped beating, Peg was always the happiest when she was surrounded by her loving family.

Peg was well known for her backyard raspberry patch which produced more than 100 quarts of berries each year. Everyone who tasted her raspberry jam said that it was the best they ever tasted because it was made with love. She often gave a jar or two to any friend or family member who stopped by her home.

After the family was raised, Peg served as a member of the Ontonagon County jury board. She made many good friends with the county "north end" people and especially loved her job.

Walt and Peg improved Bergland's business community in 1965 when they built the Red Carpet Café, which is currently Antonio's Restaurant.

Peg was a lifetime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bergland. She was a member of the Ladies' Guild and was always very proud to be involved with church activities.

Peg is survived by five sons, Jim (Winnie) and Tom (Connie), both of Bergland, and Dick (Renee), Mike (Lynn) and Jerry, all of Tampa, Fla .; a daughter, Yvonne (George) Younk, Bergland and Sarasota, Fla .; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Walt, on Nov. 21, 2003; a grandson, Danny Younk; three sisters, Regina, Lorraine and Esther; and three brothers, Herman, Elmer and Richard.

Friends may call at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. EST, where a vigil service will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
