Dora 'Dordean' Carlson

ASHLAND, Wis. - Dora "Dordean" Carlson, 84, of Saxon, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ashland.

The former Dora Clement was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Saxon, daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys (LaJoice) Clement, attended Saxon schools, and graduated from Saxon High School in 1948.

She was married to her high school sweetheart, Craig Carlson, on May 23, 1950, in Waukegan, Ill. Together, they raised their family in Saxon.  Craig preceded Dora in death on Jan. 24, 1983.

Dora worked for Cy Sorrels at the Swanee Potato Farm in Gurney from 1967-1983. She then was employed as a nurse's aide at Josephson Nursing Home in Ironwood and Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, retiring as a cook at the Saxon Senior Citizens Center. She also specialized in catering weddings and other social events.

A faithful servant to the Lord, Dora was a dedicated lifetime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon and member and past president of the St. Ann's Service Club. She was also a member of the Gurney Community Club and the Auxiliary to Mercier-Kero American Legion Post 371 of Saxon. She was an avid gardener, cook and baker, entering many of her culinary and gardening talents annually at the Iron County Fair.

Dora was a cherished family member and friend to all, and will be deeply missed.

Surviving are two sons, Allen (Connie), Sarasota, Fla., and Darrell (Diane), North Pole, Alaska; a daughter, Kathy (Kurt) Schild, Wadsworth, Ill .; four grandchildren, Brian (Terri) Carlson, Seattle, Wash., Tiana (Jason) Knewtson, Fredericksburg, Va., Heather (Eric Mueller) Schild, Naperville, Ill., and Kurt Schild (Katy Kennedy), Wadsworth; three great-grandchildren, Caroline and Jack Knewtson and James Carlson; two brothers, Ralph Clement, Ashland, and Kenneth (Sandy) Clement, Saxon; three sisters, Virginia Carpenter, Ironwood Township, Mildred Bryant, Andrews, South Carolina, and Faye (Dean) Roffers, Jupiter, Fla .; sisters-in-law, Therese Clement, Silver Bay, Minn., and Mary Lou Clement, Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dora was predeceased by a brother, Robert Clement.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow at the Saxon Community Center.

Rite of Committal and interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Saxon, in the spring.

Pallbearers will be Allen, Darrell and Brian Carlson, Kurt and Kurt "TK" Schild, and Eric Mueller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Ann's Service Club.
