Janet Marie Setterlund

KIMBALL, Wis. — Janet Marie Setterlund, 73, of Hurley passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015.

Janet was born on Oct. 28, 1941, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of Hjalmer and Vivian (Luoma) Setterlund. She was a longtime resident of the Iron County area.  Janet is survived by two sisters-Paula Kay Setterlund-Blair and Nancy Setterlund;  four daughters, JoAnn Rae Lantta-Morris and Jessica Lee Saucedo of Texas with Judith Helen Matteson and Joy Renee Roberts of Denver; eight grandchildren and one new great-grandson.

She attended Central Grade School, Luther L. Wright High School and Gogebic Community College of Ironwood. Janet completed a Bachelor of Science in applied sociology at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. While there, she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and other academic societies. Later, she attended Superior State College of Wisconsin to obtain her master’s degree in sociology.

Locally, Janet was instrumental in bringing the Iron County Clinic into Hurley and Dove Domestic Violence Escape Crisis Center into Ironwood. She was involved with the local County Extension agency, a 4-H leader, the Kimball Homemakers and many other services.

Janet was a student of life and kept expanding her learning, her love of reading and the spiritual themes of nature.

Janet touched many lives with her special kindness. In Mom’s memory, her daughters ask that in lieu of flowers gifts be made to a favorite charity.
