ASHLAND, Wis. - Annabell Powell, 88, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland.
She was born June 13, 1926, in Crandon, the daughter of John and Bannie (Ashley) West.
On Dec. 2, 1944, she married Cecil Powell, in Antigo. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
She worked many jobs over the years, with her favorite being those at the Hurley School District, where her love of children and especially handicapped children came through.
Retiring when she was 70, she still missed being with the children.
She was a mom that had so much love and concern for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always were first in her life, with family picnics being her favorite.
The years of vegetable gardening, flower gardening, canning, listening to country music, helping her friends in need and her great cooking will be greatly missed. She had wonderful friends who she enjoyed over the years. She loved visiting, shopping, and going to lunch with Angie Eno. She is now happy to be with her son, Ronnie, and many sisters and brothers in Heaven.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil, Ashland; eight children, Lois (Michael) Downey, Hayward; Charlotte (George) Skoviera, Hudson; Paul Powell, Biloxi, Miss .; Ellen (Terry) Marcott, Las Cruces, N.M .; Jenny (Rob) Eno, Ashland; Annette (Dave) Johnson, Ashland; Penny Powell, Ashland, and Bill Powell, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla .; six grandchildren, Pat (Holly) Downey, Jim (Sonja) Downey, Julie (Brent) Downey-Schwartz, Matt (Paula) Skoviera, Aaron (Colleen) Skoviera, and Amanda Marcott; eight great-grandchildren, Megan Downey, Charles Downey, Cody Schwartz, Nathan Taylor, Ethan Skoviera, Lydia Taylor, Anna Skoviera, and Amelia Skoviera; a sister, Josie Kemp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Powell, in 1972; six sisters, and three brothers.
Private family services will be held. A memorial fund will be established.
