Awareness Matters run, walk, stroll a success

WAKEFIELD - Domestic Violence Escape hosted an "Awareness Matters" run-walk-stroll Saturday morning at Sunday Lake in Wakefield.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness for sexual assault in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, according to a DOVE spokesperson.

The goal of event and the special month-long awareness campaign is to not only raise public awareness but to educate communities on how to prevent sexual violence.

The events and programs put on in the month of April will help highlight sexual violence as a major public health and social justice issue and to reinforce the need for prevention, said a spokesperson.

Participants paid $15 for registration that also included a t-shirt and snacks.

About 50 people turned out for what organizers hopes becomes an annual event. There were T-shirts and snacks and lots of smiles on a chilly but sunny morning from participants and volunteers alike.
