Findlay, Pollard sworn in to new Ontonagon County posts

ONTONAGON - Ontonagon County has a new prosecutor and treasurer. Friday, Judge Roy Gotham swore in Michael Findlay as prosecutor and Ontonagon County Clerk Stacy Preiss swore in the new treasurer, Jeanne Pollard.

Gotham told the crowd gathered for the ceremony that it was fitting the ceremony took place on Law Day.

"We are a nation of laws and prosecutors, police and judges are vital to a free society," Gotham said.

He said Findlay is a good lawyer and feels Findlay and his wife, Michelle, will be a good "fit" for the community.

Findlay said he and his wife have already been warmly received in the area and promised that he will have an "open door" to the area.

Following the ceremony, retiring Prosecutor Jim Jessup presented Findlay with the keys to the office. Jessup has served in the office for the last 12 years.

Pollard said she was "excited to be the new county treasurer."

Her appointment follows the retirement of Dee Killoran, who served for nearly 45 years.

Killoran was one of only two remaining employees who also served in the old historic court house. She moved to the present court house when it was built in 1980.

The court house employees and friends also used the occasion for a large cake congratulating Killoran and Jessup.
