First quarter of 2015 posts cold weather

IRONWOOD — April turned out to be an average month, weather-wise, in Ironwood, but the yearly mean temperature is down.

According to figures compiled at the National Weather Service office in Marquette, the average April temperature in Ironwood was 39.8 degrees, compared to the long-term average of 39.3. The highest average on record is 50.3 degrees in 1915, while the lowest was 30.2 in 1907.

For 2015, the average temperature for the first four months was 19.8 degrees, well below the long-term average of 22.8 degrees.

Precipitation was down a bit in April at 2.43 inches, compared to the 110-year average of 2.64 inches.

Snowfall totaled 13 inches, just a bit above the long-term mark of 11.4 inches.

Local readings are taken at the Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Treatment Plant off Cloverland Drive, near the fairgrounds.
