James H. Cannon

SAGINAW, Mich. - James H. Cannon, 85, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 30, 2015, at his home. The son of the late Harold and Irene (Olson) Cannon, Jim was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Ironwood.

He attended local grade schools in Ironwood, graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1948 and Gogebic Junior College in 1950. Jim served in the Army National Guard during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 439.

In 1964, he came to Saginaw, where he was employed at the Chevrolet Parts Plant and later retired from the General Motors Plant in Adrian. He was a member of UAW Local 455. In 1993, he returned to Saginaw.

Jim was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council 4232. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family.

Surviving are a brother, Robert Cannon, Ironwood; a sister-in-law, Beulah Cannon-Collison, Zilwaukee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Phyllis McDonald, Frankenmuth; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Katherine (Katy) McDonald; a brother, Edward Cannon; and sister-in-law, Shirley Cannon.

Jim's family extends their gratitude and appreciation to his caregivers, Mary Kiefer and Roger Sackrider.

Funeral liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate.

Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 439.

Friends may call at Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, Saginaw, where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m., and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass. The Knights of Columbus Council 4232 will pray the rosary 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
