Angelo Luppino

IRON BELT, Wis. - Angelo Luppino, 82, passed away on June 3, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a battle with cancer.

Angelo was born in Hurley on March 27, 1933, to Sam and Mary Luppino, and had a brother, Nathan, all of whom preceded Angelo in death. He married Nancy Nelson on March 14, 1953.

He is survived and celebrated by a large and multi-generational family: His wife, Nancy; son, Paul (Jaret) Luppino; and grandchildren, Gabrielle (Kevin) Kivi (with great-grandchildren, Lynnea and Leo), and Julia (Troy) Salzman (with great-grandchildren Tyler and Jordy); daughter Karen (Dan) Soine; and grandchildren Joshua Soine and Jessica (Brad) Strand; and sister-in-law, Joan Luppino; niece Suzanne Christie, and nephew Norman Luppino. He was loved and respected by numerous other friends and family from all over the country.

Angelo graduated from Hurley High School in 1952 and did an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He started his construction business, Angelo Luppino, Inc., in 1965 and served and stayed active in the business up until the end. He leaves a legacy of creative construction on paving, housing, and commercial building projects, making the Northwoods a more hospitable place for us all. No one will ever forget his pink trucks and equipment.

Angelo was on the Hurley Chamber of Commerce, started the Builders Construction Exchange in Hurley, and was a member of the Hurley Lions Club, the Hurley Education Foundation, and Salem Lutheran Church. Angelo's charisma brought people together and one of his unique gifts was his alignment of personal ethics with his business ethics that resulted in being a trusted member of the community.

Angelo had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, building ponds, landscaping, improving animal habitat, and entertaining family and friends. One of the activities he enjoyed most was sharing his love of fishing with others, and many people know how to set a hook and clean a fish due to Angelo's patient teaching.

If you care to make a donation in Angelo's memory, make it to Salem Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., Ironwood, MI 49938, on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. Rev. Rell D. Spickerman will officiate.
