Rosemary M. Iacono

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Rosemary M. Iacono, 86, of Ironwood, died Monday, July 13, 2015, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.

The former Rosemary Maksym was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Boho) Maksym, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1947. She then moved to Chicago, where she worked as a waitress at the Edgewater Country Club, and married George D. Iacono in 1949. Moving to Tucson, Ariz., she worked with her husband in his optometry practice for 50 years. Following George's death in 1999, she remained in Tucson until returning to Ironwood in 2005.

Rosemary was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. An avid golfer, she had six holes-in-one in her lifetime and won numerous tournaments and awards in Arizona. She also was a gifted quilter and seamstress.

Surviving are a son, Carl (Jane) Iacono, Livermore, Calif .; daughter, Georgeann (John) Russell, Carol Stream, Ill .; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Rosemary was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary, in infancy; two brothers, Walter and Joseph "Bill" Maksym; and three sisters, Frances Harrison, Eleanor Schwabe and Bernice Didier.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the St. Joseph Family Room at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
