Silver Street celebrates Italian style Saturday

HURLEY - Celebrate Italy and Iron County's Italian heritage Saturday during the city's annual Festival Italiano on Silver Street.

This year, there's something for everyone, said Rita Franzoi, the Hurley Chamber of Commerce event coordinator.

There will be live music, street dancing, outdoor dining and more throughout the day.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a three-on-three basketball tournament, according to event fliers.

Then, at noon, there's a duck pick in the parking lot of Giovanoni True Value Hardware. "Kids Again Inflatable Toys" will also commence on Silver Street. The duck pick runs until 2 p.m. while the inflatable toys last until 4 p.m.

From noon to 3 p.m., children can get balloons and their face painted at Fun E Business.

Bingo will start at 1 p.m. on Fourth Avenue South.

At 2 p.m, a "Jaws of Life" demonstration will be put on by the Hurley Fire Department.

Live music will be played by Johnny Warren from noon to 4 p.m. Marty's Goldenaires will perform 4:30 p.m. and The White House Players will be on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The annual watermelon eating contest will take place at 4 p.m. at the Iron Horse Saloon.

50/50 tickets can be purchased throughout the day with the drawing at the bandstand at 9 p.m. The store-front contest winner will be announced at 9 p.m., too.
