Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Ontonagon parade winners announced

ONTONAGON - Autumn-like temperatures brought out large crowds for the 15th annual Ontonagon Hometown Christmas Parade Sunday.

Colorful lighted floats made the trip down River Street, led by the Ontonagon Area School District Band.

Winning first place in the open float competition was the Dream Catchers entry, "The 12 Days of Christmas." Each of the 12 days was represented by one of the Dream Catchers.

Maids a milking, geese a laying,  swans a swimming and lords a leaping were all in distinctive  costumes.

The Stein Club float featured a large snowman, lighted Christmas tree and children.

One float reminded the public of the meaning of Christmas, the birth of the Christ Child. The animals in the stable were also  represented.

Santa and Mrs. Claus made a trip from the North Pole and met with children after the parade.

The parade ended the four-day Hometown Christmas celebration. "The weather did not look like Christmas, but the great participation in the four days was the best ever," chair Annette  Trail said.
