J. Scott Lindquist

BESSEMER, Mich. - J. Scott Lindquist, 56, formerly of Bessemer, completed his earthly journey on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, following a year-long battle with cancer.

Scott was born on April 15, 1959, in Minneapolis, a son of Jon "Jack" and Helen (Gustafson) Lindquist. He attended school in Bessemer and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in 1977.

Scott's love for emergency medical services began as a senior in high school when he received his emergency medical technician certificate and worked with a local ambulance company. Scott continued his education and became a paramedic and then a licensed practical nurse. He was employed by Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming.

Scott returned to the area and earned his registered nurse diploma from Gogebic Community College. He was active in training emergency personnel, EMTs and paramedics, in the Upper Peninsula (UPEMS).

Scott fulfilled a life-long dream and became a flight nurse and was employed by North Flight, based in Traverse City. Until his illness, he worked as an emergency room nurse at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.

Scott is survived by his parents, Jack and Helen, of Bessemer; a brother, Gary (Vicki); their son, Eric, all of downstate Wyoming; a sister, Judy Myer; and her son, David, both of La Crosse, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John "Jack" and Minnie Lindquist; and his maternal grandparents, Mauritz and Ruth Gustafson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Cornerstone Church in Ramsay.

Committal services and interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, in the spring.
