Ironwood's Wilson named Ojibway Officer of the Year

MARENISCO - Ironwood resident Scott Wilson has been named the Ojibway Correctional Facility's Officer of the Year.

Wilson has been working at the prison for 16 years, first as a food service leader and then as a corrections officer.

He attended the Michigan Department of Corrections Officer Academy following privatization of the food service department in 2013, returning to Ojibway after graduation.

"Officer Wilson has been recognized for his exemplary professionalism and attention to detail. When the food service department was privatized in December of 2013, he attended the MDOC Officer Academy and became a corrections officer at OCF," a prison spokesperson said in the award announcment.

"Upon returning to work as an officer, Scott exhibited great professionalism in sharing his food service expertise to assist the private food service contractor and ease the transition for everyone involved. Although he only has two years in as an officer, he has 16 years with the department and vast experience in managing prisoners and working within the prison system," the spokeperson continued.

Married with two sons, Wilson has also been involved in various youth sports - coaching Little League baseball, junior high football, soccer and skiing, serving on the board of the Penokee Range Little League, umpiring baseball games and moving the chains for Ironwood football games.
