George D. Gross

MINOCQUA, Wis. - George D. Gross, 75, of Mercer, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, in Minocqua.

George was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Menominee, Mich., the son of George and Marjorie (Jurgens) Gross, of Wallace, Mich. George graduated from Stephenson High School in 1958. He then moved to Milwaukee, where he married Sandra Foelker in 1960. He was in the trucking business until his retirement in 1995, when he moved to Mercer to enjoy life in the Northwoods.

An avid hunter and fisherman, George enjoyed and appreciated the outdoors with a passion. Although successful in a variety of hunting expeditions, his true joy came from the times he spent in the woods or in the boat with family and friends. The best of his days were spent guiding his two grandsons as they searched for crappies, bluegills and bass in his lake. He also enjoyed spending a day in the field with his dog, Annie.

George is survived by his sons, Jeff, Jody and Jason; as well as eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He has two brothers, James (Karen) and Jerry (Laura); and a sister, Lori (Dave) Kirt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra; and his sister, Karen.

A celebration of George's life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Mercer Community Center, 2648 Margaret Street, Mercer.
