Peter James Palm

BESSEMER, Mich. - On May 18, 2016, at 9:53 a.m., Peter James Palm, of Green Bay, Wis., passed away at his residence on Creek Side Trail at Big Powderhorn Mountain, Bessemer, at the age of 62 years old, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Peter was born on Dec. 29, 1953, to James and Glorianne Palm. His siblings are William Palm (Carol), of Hudson, Wis., and Patrick Palm, of Denver, Colo.

Peter married Cindy Miskovich, of Wakefield, on May 30, 1991. Their children are John Palm (Kendra Williams), Robert Miskovich and Catalina Palm, of Bessemer.

Peter graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in restaurant and hotel management in 1975. He relocated to Ironwood to manage the lodging department at Big Powderhorn Mountain. With dreams of being an entrepreneur Peter, Cindy and his brother Patrick started their first restaurant in Ironwood in 1988 named "Palm's Restaurant and Lounge," which is now Maplewood Steakhouse. Peter then went on to open six more restaurants throughout Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula.

Peter's favorite pastime hobby was walking the fields of South Dakota with his Chesapeake Bay retrievers and good friends and family hunting his favorite game, pheasants. Some of his fondest memories were tailored around bird camp, "Come on guys we're burning daylight, nothing happens when you're sleeping!" He also was an outdoor enthusiast who loved biking, skiing, snowshoeing and jogging. Peter and his friend, Eric Fitting, were the main contributors to starting the Copper Peak bike trails; one of the trails was dedicated in his honor, "Palm's Paradise."

Peter's legacy spreads far beyond what he provided for his family, and he created a village that touches us all.

Peter is succeeded by his mother, Glorianne Palm; wife, Cindy Palm; brothers, William and Patrick Palm; children, John and Catalina Palm and Robert Miskovich; and grandchildren, Logan Williams and Cynthea Palm. He was predeceased by his father, James Palm.

Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 21, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

A reception will be held at the Maplewood Steakhouse in Ironwood immediately following the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to W.M.B.C.-Western Michigan Bicycle Club, 1435 E. Cloverland Drive, Ironwood, MI 49938.

Arrangements were entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Peter Palm online at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
