Flower boxes to spruce up Bergland

BERGLAND - Six Bergland residents met Sunday afternoon to plant flowers in an effort to catch the eyes of people visiting the town.

The volunteers moved the flowers, mostly petunias and geraniums, from their original containers and placed them in plastic planters.

Wendy Savola, the leader of the effort, said she and another member began the flower planting project five years ago in an attempt to "make people slow down and actually look" as they drive through the small town on Lake Gogebic.

Savola said that there are plenty of nice things to look at in Bergland.
