Eugene R. 'Moby' Malmberg

WOODRUFF, Wis. - Eugene R. "Moby" Malmberg, 88, of East Houk Street, Ironwood, Mich., died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in Woodruff.

He was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Gile, Wis., the son of the late Theodore and Ida (Rajala) Malmberg.

He attended Newport School and Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood. From April 17, 1946, until April 25, 1947, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Eugene was employed by his brother-in-law, Charlie Vittone; he was a carpenter for P.J. Nickel; he was also employed by Schult Mobile Homes, and D & B Freight Sales until his retirement.

He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, fishing and telling jokes. He also enjoyed local Ironwood sports, especially baseball and watching his grandsons.

On Nov.1, 1948, he was married to the former Jean Nelmark at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. She survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Linda (Tim Rahko); grandsons, Tony (Ashley) and Jon (Courtney Clement); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Wally, Roy, Hans and Kayo; and his sisters, Marian Rigoni, Sally Vittone and Ino in infancy.

Cremation will take place. Inurnment with Military Rites accorded by the American Legion Post 5 of Ironwood will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood at a future date.
