Iron County Heritage Festival has big weekend ahead

The Iron County Heritage Festival continues tonight with a presentation about life in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Beginning at 6 p.m. in the Iron County Historical Museum, Jeff Suzik will talk about growing up in the CCC during the Great Depression. The presentation is sponsored the by Range History, Geography and Geology Club.

The festival continues Friday as Highline Corporation will host an open house to celebrate its 50th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Iron County Historical Society will celebrate Heritage Day at the Iron County Museum with an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be demonstrations of broom making, blacksmithing and antique musical instruments. There will also be children’s story time focused of the fur trade from 1-2 p.m.

On Saturday, the Hurley K-12 School will honor alumni and friends, beginning with an open house at 9:30 a.m. at the school, followed by the Hurley Education Foundation’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony of distinguished friends and alumni at 11 a.m. The Hurley High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place noon,

The Iron County Heritage Festival Parade will begins at 2 p.m. on Silver Street. Floats will contain members of both hall of fame induction classes, as well as several high school classes holding reunions this weekend.

The fifth annual Iron County All-Class, All-School Reunion will follow at the Iron County Memorial Building from 5-10 p.m. There will be food, beverages and a raffle.

Antique tractors will be on display during the Farm Heritage Day and Antique Tractor Show at the farmers market in Kimball from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

In Mercer, the Wood ‘n Bloom Garden Tour will take place from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. There will be various perennial, woodland, cottage, rock and landscape features on display.

St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer will host a Pork Fest from noon to 2 p.m.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host its annual bazaar at noon featuring games, bingo, food and music.

The Mercer Education Foundation Summer Mardi Gras fundraiser will start at 6 p.m. at the Pines.
