Mary Ann Slade

AITKIN, Minn. - Mary Ann Slade, 95 of Aitkin, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Aitkin Health Services.

A private family funeral service will be held at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dawn Houser of Aitkin United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Cemetery.

Mary was born in Ironwood, Mich., to John and Rose (Sokolovic) Bunjevac on March 21, 1921. She went to high school in Ironwood and graduated in 1939. She married Frederick Arthur Slade on Feb. 1, 1941, in Ironwood. In 1954, they moved their family to Hoyt Lakes where Art worked for Pickands Mather & Co. Mary is a founding member of Trinity Methodist Church in Hoyt Lakes. She and Art enjoyed traveling, attending their grandchildren's events, auctions and antiquing. Mary was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, enjoyed cooking, baking and home projects.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose; three brothers, Nick, Peter and Steve Bunjevac; and four sisters, Regina Tiziani, Millie Dural, Helen Ledvina, and Katherine LaSota.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Ann Clark of Greenville, S.C., Rose White of Fridley, and Julia Brew of Bloomington; brother, John (Patricia) Bunjevac of Ironwood; son, James (Cathee) Slade of Colfax, Wis .; daughter, Jeanne (Tom) Rikala of Aitkin; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Cummings of New Brighton, Jeff (Angie) Kjelstrom of Aitkin, and Larry (Jessica) Slade of Chippewa Falls, Wis .; and 10 great-grandchildren.
