Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Halloween hours set

IRONWOOD — Trick-or-treating on the Gogebic Range is recommended for 4 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31.

Both Ironwood Public Safety Department Director Andrew DiGiorgio and Gogebic County Sheriff Peter Matonich recommend those hours for Ironwood, Bessemer and Wakefield, but said daylight hours are preferable.

Hurley will follow a similar schedule.

Children should wear light-colored clothing or have reflective tape on their costumes so they can easily be seen by motorists. They should carry flashlights if possible.

All young children must be accompanied by parents or adults.

DiGiorgio and Matonich recommend children trick-or-treat in their own neighborhoods, under well-lighted streets.

The children should coordinate their routes with their parents and have a set time to return home.

Parents should insist that treats be brought home for inspection before anything is eaten.

“If any treat looks suspicious, contact the IPSD or sheriff’s department,” DiGiorgio said.

It’s important that parents warn their children about hazards connected with Halloween, such as traffic and the possibility of tampered candy, the law officers said.
