Superior Snowshoe Walks set for January

IRONWOOD — Superior Snowshoe Walks have been scheduled for the sixth winter season, beginning in January.

All of the walks begin in the dark at 6:30 p.m. Headlights or flashlights are recommended.

People who are new to snowshoeing can try snowshoes for free, according to Sam and Anne Davey at the Hobby Wheel, 932-3332.

The schedule includes:

—Jan. 4: Mark Fitting Annual Memorial Walk, starting at Michigan Information Center, sponsored by Maplewood Restaurant.

—Jan. 11: Bessemer walk behind city hall, sponsored by Bessemer VFW.

—Jan. 18: Gogebic Country Club, sponsored by Elk and Hound.

—Jan. 25: Manny’s walk, sponsored by Manny’s Restaurant.

—Feb. 1: Miners Park trail, sponsored by Rigoni’s Inn.

—Feb. 8: Corullo’s house, 5361 Spring Lane Road, sponsored by Don and GG’s.

—Feb. 15: Stan and Sue Carr’s house walk, sponsored by Big Powderhorn Mountain.

—Feb. 22: Schaumberg Park, sponsored by the Pit Stop in Hurley.

—March 1: ABR walk, sponsored by Golden Dragon Restaurant.

—March 8: Mount Zion walk, sponsored by Bell Chalet.

—March 15: Wolverine Ski Trails, sponsored by Wolverine Ski Club and Hobby Wheel; open potluck cook-out with bonfire.
