ONTONAGON, Mich. - Jack Reynolds passed away on Dec. 8, 2016, at Aspirus Long-Term Care in Ontonagon.

Jack was born in Ontonagon on Jan. 4, 1927, the son of John and Violet (Penegor) Reynolds. He attended school in Rockland and was a graduate of Roger Clark. He was the youngest grandchild of Jerry and Emily (Brown) Penegor, who homesteaded and farmed on U.S. 45 at the top of the Military Hill.

Jack was inducted into the U.S. military during World War II. On the day that he left for the military, his father passed away due to a heart attack and he had to come home for a few days before he attended basic training.

After he served in the military, he attended Gogebic Community College in Ironwood for two years. He completed his education at Michigan State University and obtained a degree in forestry. He was a registered forester with the state of Michigan and maintained one of the lowest numbers as a forester in Michigan. He was employed with the U.S. Forestry at Kenton for a number of years; he then became employed at Champion International as a forester. He retired from there with health issues. He was a true survivor. He loved his work as a forester working with all the loggers in the area and several individuals running lines and cruising timber. He also served as a fireman in Rockland for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his companion of 50 years, Alice Martin, of Greenland, his stepsons-in-law, Ken Immonen, of Greenland, Carl Pantti, of Greenland, and Steve Roberts, of Rockland.

He is survived by Alice's children, whom he lovingly called his stepchildren, Gail Immonen, of Greenland (and LTC in Ontonagon), Sue (Phillip) Broadhead, of Fountain Valley, Calif., Anita Patti, of Greenland, Jim (Lorraine) Martin and John (Colette) Martin, of Millington, Muriel Roberts, of Rockland, and Pat (Jerry) Walker, of Ontonagon; and friends, David (Karen) Wieson, James (Arlette) Pantti of Rockland, and Keith (Eva) Penegor, of Ontonagon. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 12, at the St. Paul's Methodist Church in Rockland at 11 a.m., with visitation on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon and one hour before the service at the Rockland St. Paul's Methodist Church on Monday with Masonic Services at the church on Monday.

Veterans services will be held in the spring at Spring Burial at the Rockland Cemetery.
