Lido J. Paoli

SOUTH RANGE, Mich. - Lido J. Paoli, 85, of South Range, and former long-time White Pine resident, died on Jan. 2, 2017 at the Omega House following a brief illness.

He was born June 24, 1931, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Hancock, Mich., a son of the late Giulio and Tisbe (Petroni) Paoli, and was a 1949 graduate of the Painesdale High School.

He attended Suomi College in Hancock, receiving a degree in accounting.

Lido was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

On October 30, 1954, he was married to the former Mary Ann LaBelle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet. The couple lived in South Range for one year prior to moving to White Pine where he operated Paoli's Store. After the closing of the store, he worked for the White Pine Copper Company, retiring in 1995 as the director of purchasing. Following Mary Ann's death in 1998, he then returned to South Range to make his home.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish in South Range, and was very involved in activities of the church. While living in White Pine, he was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church, a volunteer for the White Pine Fire Department, a member and past secretary of the White Pine Lions Club, active with the VFW, and clerk for Carp Lake Township. He was also a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council 291 of Hancock and a member of Msgr. A.J. Rezek Assembly 0472, serving as secretary for many years and on the Color Corp. He was also a member and past secretary of the South Range Lions Club, a member of Ranger Post 6165 VFW of South Range, and drove the DAV van, logging 195,700 miles.

He enjoyed biking, cross country skiing, attending social events and doing for others and family. He had a generous heart and will be sorely missed by many.

Lido is survived by his children, Cheryl (Dean) Schiff of Des Plaines, Ill., Tina (Jim) Falkowski of Oconomowoc, Wis., Julie (Allan) Hess of Guffey, Colo., Dave (Kathy) Paoli of Oak Park, Ill., Mary (Bill) Warner of Nekoosa, Wis., George (Renee) Paoli of Glenside, Pa .; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Eli, Stacy (Richard), Aaron, Cassie, Maggie, Julie, Courtney, Molly, Tony and Matthew; a great-grandson, Brayden; two brothers, Guido Paoli of Atlantic Mine and Joe (Arbutus) Paoli of South Range; one sister, Lyda Stimac of Houghton; daughter-in-law, Connie Paoli of Lakeville, Minn .; as-well-as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, Lido was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda (Joe) LaRoche, Angelina (Cliff) Paulson, and Julia (Joe) Pleshe, another brother-in-law, George Stimac, and a sister-in-law, Lucy Paoli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Holy Family Parish in South Range, with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range where a memorial service will be conducted by Range Post at 7 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service. There will also be a visitation beginning one hour before the Mass on Friday, at the church. Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the Omega House in the name of Lido J. Paoli. Arrangements are being handled by Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
