Judith Ann Westeen

BESSEMER, Mich. - Judith Ann Westeen, 70, of Bessemer, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2017.

Judy was born on April 9, 1946, in Bessemer Township, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Selin) Westeen. She attended A.D. Johnston High School and graduated in 1964.

On July 10, 1965, she married Dennis Johnson. They were blessed with a son, Scott.

After her son began school, Judy worked at Big Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort for several years. She then was employed by Hurley Astronautics Corporation of America. Judy moved to Minneapolis, Minn., in the early 1980s, where she worked for more than 25 years at Versa Electronics manufacturing and supervising the making of electronic circuit boards. While in Minnesota, she met her dear friend and roommate for more than 20 years, Carol Booen. Carol, Carol's daughters, Ruth, Jane, and Barbie and their children, and Carol's sisters, became Judy's second family.

Upon retiring from Versa Electronics, Judy moved back to Bessemer to be closer to her family. She worked at the Bessemer American Legion Post 27 until present. While working at the Legion, she made many wonderful friends, especially Wendy Meldrum, who was like a sister to her.

Judy was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer.

She was an awesome cook, baker, and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.

Judy is survived by her son, Scott (Lisa) Johnson, Bessemer; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Travis Johnson, both of Bessemer; a great-grandson, Kaleb Johnson; a niece, Shelly (Mark) Sabol, Champlin, Minn .; a nephew, Stacy (Tammy) Westeen, Bessemer; two great-nephews, William Westeen and Andy Westeen; and numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her former husband; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" and Patricia "Pat" Westeen; and two nephews, Todd Westeen and Danny Westeen.

In accordance with Judy's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m., preceded by visitation at noon, at Sharon Lutheran Church, 100 E. Sellar St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
