Nancy Jean (Pietila) Ashbrook

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Nancy Jean (Pietila) Ashbrook, 66, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, in Mount Pleasant.

Nancy was born in Bruce Crossing on March 18, 1950, to the late Albert and Ruth (Johnson) Pietila. She is a 1968 graduate of Ewen-Trout Creek High School. During her years of employment, she worked for the FHA, restaurant work, casino work and was self-employed.

In earlier years she was an avid outdoors person who loved to go hunting and fishing. She also participated in league golf and bowling. She absolutely loved to play cribbage, scrabble, puzzles, dice and card games with family and friends.

Nancy also enjoyed crafting, crocheting and reading. She was also an amazing baker. Nancy was also blessed with the gift of gab, as well as a keen memory. Both combined made her quite a storyteller. She was fun-spirited with a heart of gold. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her son, Keith (Carrie) Ashbrook; her daughter, Jolene (Scott) Olson (Ashbrook); three grandchildren, Avory Olson, Autumn Ashbrook-Pietila and Neebin Ashbrook-Pietila; three sisters, Sally (Pietila) Pantti Kempinen, Peggy (Pietila) Knivila and Cathy (Pietila) Welsh; and one brother, William Pietila. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and her great-niece.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Pietila; and her niece, Christina (Pantti) Shamion.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home, Bruce Crossing.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Cane Funeral Home, Bruce Crossing Chapel, with Pastor Steven Washburn officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
