City of Ironwood board reviews tax rolls next week

Ironwood — The city of Ironwood’s board of review is scheduled to meet all of next week.

City manager Scott Erickson announced the sessions at Monday’s city commission meeting.

City residents will have the opportunity to appear before the board of review if they have complaints or questions about their tax bills.

Taxpayers can appear before the board of review on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, next Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to noon.

In other business, Erickson also said two bid openings are coming up in the next few weeks for city projects.

Bids will be opened March 7 for pavement striping throughout the city.

On March 15, bids will be opened for replacement of the cemetery mausoleum roof.

In his weekly comments, Erickson responded to a complaint from Randy Kasich made earlier in Monday’s meeting that the manhole covers are sinking along the highway following the reconstruction project.

Erickson said the manholes and related sewer structure stay firmly in place and do not move, but the road surface can heave as much as five or six inches from the frost and that’s what is happening.

The road surface will settle and the covers will no longer be sunken.

Likewise, highways are prone to what is called tenting at this time of the year. The frost comes up from the ground and the road surfaces become cracked and bumpy until they settle with warmer weather of spring.
