John 'Jack' P. Goss

 

BESSEMER, Mich. - John "Jack" P. Goss, 83, a long-time resident of Bessemer, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2017, surrounded by his family.

John was born on Aug. 22, 1933, in Grayling, a son of Oscar and Claribell (Lovely) Goss. He attended Grayling High School and graduated in 1951.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Oct. 10, 1959, John was united in marriage to Gloria M. Novascone at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer.

John worked for the State of Michigan Highway Department and Gogebic County Road Commission as its assistant engineer until his retirement. He also owned and operated his own land surveying business in Bessemer.

John took pleasure spending time with his family on their hobby farm in Bessemer. He also enjoyed spending time with area youths at the local horse shows.

John is survived by his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Gina (Harold Stein), Bessemer; two sons, Gene (Darrin Nowicki), Bessemer, and Guy (Diane), Mickleton, N.J .; three grandchildren, Colt, Sarah and Rachel; two great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Emilia; two brothers, Leslie (Marlene) and Dean (Linda), both of Grayling; a sister, Elaine Campbell, Grayling; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Phyliss Armstrong; and a nephew, John Rockelman.

In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Honoring his life, a family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to HOPE Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 261, Ironwood, MI 49938.

The family wishes to thank Beacon Ambulance, and the doctors and staff at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital and Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their exceptional care, comfort and support.
