Ruth L. Kujala


WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Ruth L. Kujala, 90, a long-time resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 10, 2017.

Ruth was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Ramsay, a daughter of John and Anna (Rundahl) Holmquist. She attended Ramsay School and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1944.

On May 15, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Jack Kujala in Wakefield.

She was an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church and the Wakefield Senior Citizens Center.

For many years, Ruth worked as a bank teller at the Bessemer National Bank.

She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and a great friend to many.

Ruth is survived by a son, Brian, Louisville, Ky .; two daughters, Diane (Ronald) Hemming, Milford, Conn., and Donna (Terry) LaDuron, Iron Mountain; six grandchildren, Nathan, Brooks (Ashley), Ross and Jillian Hemming, all of Milford, Stacey Ackerman, South Korea, and Liisa Ackerman, Iron Mountain; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Richard Holmquist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jack, on July 5, 1993; her son-in-law, David Ackerman, on June 7, 2003; three brothers, Thure, Arvid and John Holmquist; and two sisters, Elsa Tesch and Ann Nobert.

In accordance with Ruth's wishes, cremation will take place.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 14, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.

Luncheon will follow at the church fellowship hall.

The committal service and interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, in the spring.
