William 'Bill' Arnold Spetz

WOODRUFF, Wis. - William "Bill" Arnold Spetz, 84, of Woodruff, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at his residence.

Bill was born on Sept. 22, 1932, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of Otto and Hanna (nee Tassava) Spetz. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School and Gogebic Junior College and later received his B.S. degree from Michigan State University and his master's degree from UW-Superior. Bill married Elva Marion Smith on June 18, 1960, and she survives.

Bill was a high school science teacher at Southern Door County High School for 27 years. He was a member of United Methodist Church of the Pines in Minocqua and was a member of the town of Lac du Flambeau Zoning Committee. He enjoyed reading, sports, fishing and hunting. Bill loved visiting with people anywhere, anytime.

He is survived by his wife, Elva Spetz; his children, Karen (Steve) Onsager, Brian (Heather) Spetz, Paul (Cindy) Spetz and Jana Spetz; grandchildren, Bradley (Heather) Crandell, Max Crandell, Riley and Isaiah Spetz, Will and Libby Spetz, and Hannah, Amanda and Breanna Semmerling; and by great-grandchildren, Kate and Julia Crandell. He is further survived by his sisters, Arlene Renken, Viola Nixon and Edith Dobrinski; his aunt, Miriam Tungate; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hanna Spetz; his brothers-in-law, Rod Nixon, and Gil Dobrinski; and by beloved aunts, uncles and his grandson, Leo Spetz.

Memorial services for Bill will be on Tuesday, April 18, at 11 a.m., at United Methodist Church of the Pines in Minocqua, with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
