Forrest C. Hill

MCFARLAND, Mich. - Forrest C. Hill, 67, of McFarland, died peacefully Friday, April 14, 2017, at his home, with his family by his side and under the care of U.P. Health System Home Care & Hospice.

He was born June 10, 1949, in Highland Park, a son of the late Herman O. and Laura J. (Perham) Hill and was raised in the Upper Peninsula.

On May 1, 1971, he married Barbara Lynn Codd in Ewen.

Forrest worked in the automobile industry in various capacities for A.O. Smith and Tower International through the years, living with his family in Wisconsin and Lower Michigan until his retirement in 2004 as a project manager. He and Barbara moved back to the U.P., where they owned and operated Hills General Store in Perkins.

He served as a member of the Army National Guard, was president for eight years of the Mid Pen School Board, coached boys and girls basketball, refereed basketball games and was a Little League umpire. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rock and the Little Lake American Legion.

Forrest is survived by his wife, Barbara Lynn Hill, of McFarland; daughter, Rhonda (Steven) Gregorek, of Stafford, Va .; grandchildren, Christian (Leah), Jacob, McGwire and Dayne; a great-grandchild, Ella Marie Scott, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Gregory Scott Hill.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock with Rev. Rell Spickerman officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Turrin Township Hall. Military honors will be provided by the Little Lake American Legion.
