Lorraine A. Hall

TOMAHAWK, Wis. - Lorraine A. Hall, 94, of Mercer, died Thursday morning, April 13, 2017, at Golden Living Center in Tomahawk.

The former Lorraine Sutherland was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Cedar River, Mich., daughter of the late Turi and Pearl (Parrett) Sutherland. She came to Morse, Wis., as a baby with her parents and spent her youth and attended school in the area. She graduated from Mellen High School with the Class of 1940. After graduation, she was employed as office operator by Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co. in Ashland.

On Sept. 15, 1943, she married Sgt. Clement Hall in Glidden at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. A war bride, she traveled to various states to be with her husband until he was sent overseas.

Clement and Lorraine moved to Bismarck, N.D., in January 1946 and lived there for 34 years, moving to Mercer upon retirement in 1980. While living in Bismarck, Lorraine worked at the Northwest Bell Telephone office and at St. Mary's Central High School. She was an active member of Corpus Christi Church, St. Gerard's Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, National Catholic Society of Foresters and Boy Scouts. Locally, she was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, where she was active in CCD and church activities for many years, and Northwoods Senior Citizens.

Dearest to Lorraine's heart were her family, her home, her Catholic faith and her many friends. Lorraine was a kind and gentle woman with a gift of always seeing the best that people and situations had to offer.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen (Mary), Watertown S.D., and Timothy (Karen), New Bern, N.C .; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Sutherland, and sister, Elaine Mears, both of Mercer; brother-in-law, Erling "Bob" Nelson, Ashland, Ore .; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Clement, on Sept. 1, 1998; three brothers, Vernon, Claude and Ronald Sutherland; and four sisters, Harriet Clapero, Rosemary Mutanen, June Nelson and Marjorie Petzel.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ronald Serrao, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Mercer Cemetery.

Luncheon will be served at the Cranberry Inn in Mercer upon return from the cemetery.
