Ironwood - Two Luther L. Wright students are putting the wood shop to good use. Brandon Nielsen and Donny Jarvenpaa, both 17, are active in Alison Stehlik's shop room.

Stehlik is the daughter of a shop teacher, so before wondering what a female is doing teaching shop, remember it is 2017 and her dad ran a shop class and she did the natural thing to do in following in his footsteps. Besides, who does not like the smell of cut wood?

Nielsen and Jarvenpaa, since January 2017, have refinished an old desk and made it look brand new, crafted coat racks for each Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District classroom, and are finishing up hand-crafted signs, where they glue panels and joint then together, after selecting a design to imprint on the wood.

Jarvenpaa selected a scene from the Japanese television show and graphic novel series, "Attack On Titan." Nielsen fabricated a sign for his man cave, which Jarvenpaa joked was really "just the bathroom."

Both students expressed favoritism toward spending time in wood shop over their other classes. According to Stehlik, they were ahead of the other students and she enjoys having them in class.
