Ann Norden

LINDENHURST, Ill. – Ann Norden, 97, of Lindenhurst, formerly of Park City, and Wakefield, Mich., passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at The Village at Victory Lake in Lindenhurst, where she had resided since 2009.

Ann was born on Jan. 14, 1919, in Montreal, Wis., a daughter of Steve and Agnes (Minervich) Zorich. She was raised in Puritan Location in Bessemer, Mich. Ann attended A.D. Johnston High School and graduated in 1937.

On Nov. 28, 1941, Ann was united in marriage to Walter S. Norden of Wakefield. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and were blessed with three children.

During World War II, she helped the war effort by working at several defense industries in Detroit. Following the war, Ann and her husband, U.S. Army Sgt. Walter, returned to Wakefield.

In 1963, the family moved to Waukegan, Ill. She worked for many years at Sears Roebuck and Company until her retirement.

Ann and Walter enjoyed their golden years together and traveled to Europe two times and across the United States. Year after year, they returned to the area during the Fourth of July holiday, as they loved spending time with their family and friends at Chaney Lake.

Ann is survived by a daughter, Ruth (Ken) Carlson, Hanover Park, Ill .; a son, Arthur (Karen) Norden, Wakefield; five grandchildren, Shannon (Shawn) Shirkey, James (Jennifer) Norden, Bridget (John) Ward, Diane (Christopher) LaFortune and Jeff Carlson; six great-grandchildren, Jessie and Jake Ward, Jason Norden, Hunter Shirkey and Kaela and Melanie LaFortune; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Walter, on Sept. 27, 2006; a son, Robert W. Norden, on Jan. 10, 2007; a grandson, Eric E. Norden, on Aug. 21, 2010; two brothers, Matt and George Zorich, and a brother in infancy; and two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary and Axel Hill and Agnes and Laurie "Tuggers" Koski.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10:30 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.

A committal service and inurnment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Luncheon will be served at the church fellowship hall following the cemetery service.
