Ironwood — Two public hearings on garages will precede Monday’s regular Ironwood City Commission meeting.

At 5:20 p.m., the commission will hear comments on a variance request for an addition to a garage at 723 Hill St.

At 5:25 p.m., comments will be received on a variance request for a new garage within the lot line setback at 121 W. Arch St.

Commissioners will act on both requests after receiving the comments.

The two public hearings will be followed by a third one on the fiscal year 2017-’18 proposed budget and property tax rates to be levied to support it.

The regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. will include taking action on the budget and property taxes rates and several items of new business.

The commission will consider approving an overall budget of nearly $11 million, with a city tax levy of $1,840,000 and 29.6658 levied mills.

Local street paving locations and awarding a $156,900 bid to Fahrner Asphalt Sealers are two of the key items on the agenda.

Commissioners will discuss declaring two lawnmowers surplus property and leasing mowers to the Western Gateway Trail Authority and Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park.

The commission plans a closed session on contract negotiations with the police officers’ union.

Two-year contracts for other non-union and union city employees were settled recently by the commission.
