Rev. Donald J. Dominkowski

WAUSAU, Wis. - Rev. Donald J. "DJ" Dominkowski, 78, went to be with his Lord on July 14, 2017, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

He was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Feb. 24, 1939, to John and Sigrid (Aho) Dominkowski. He graduated from Ironwood High School in 1956. On Aug. 26, 1961, he married Maxine Jarvi. Donald attended seminary at Concordia in Springfield, Ill., and graduated in 1963.

Pastor Dominkowski went on to serve many different churches including churches in Westminster, Mass., Forbes, N.D., and Hayward/Cable. In 1971, the family moved to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder Junction where he stayed until retiring in 2012. He also served churches in Minocqua, Mercer, Presque Isle, Land O'Lakes, Manitowish Waters and Marenisco, Mich. Pastor served the Lord and numerous congregations for 51 years.

Other than the church and his family, he loved his many hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and North Dakota, and those that knew him best heard him recount those trips many times. He enjoyed the time spent and looked forward to the adventures with family and the many special friends he had made over the years, especially those in North Dakota.

Our dad was known by many names Pastor, The Rev., DJ, Dom, Preach, Polish Padre', Dad, but his favorite was Papa. He was an active member of his community and many organizations - too many to list here.

We will miss his stories, laughter, kindness and love. He never missed an opportunity to help those who needed him.

Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maxine; son, Mark Dominkowski, Cable; daughter, Diann (Jim) Koshuta, Three Lakes; and son-in-law, Jeff Kuglitsch Janesville. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Beth (Arthur) Leppi, Minocqua. Papa also leaves behind his precious grandchildren that he loved more than anything, Adam and Alysse Kuglitsch, and Doug, Sam and Kate Koshuta.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Dominkowski; and his daughter, Debra Kuglitsch.

There will be a visitation on Saturday July 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder Junction. A memorial service will follow at noon, with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Gary Albert will officiate.
