Ironwood - Visitors to the Miner's Memorial Heritage Park made their selection in the Art in the Miners Park 2017, third annual outdoor art exhibition on the historical one mile long Aurora Loop. The voting public, which cast over 300 votes this year, selected "Find Your Treasure," by artist Lori Dray.

Dray put colorful and artistic sea shapes and animals mixed with a shipwreck and sayings to capture the eye. As the winner of the Peoples Choice, Dray takes home an additional $250 for her winning efforts.

The Jurors Award, selected by Kerry Shadbolt, Michigan 2016 art teacher of the year and secondary level art educator of the year went to Kate Greenough for her piece on music and religion titled, "Poetry in Motion." Greenough combined the lyrics of popular songs with boxes lined up in a straight line to rotate with the wind.

Paul Kostelnik, president of the Friends of the Miner's Park was at the park before the announcement of the winners to do trail and art maintenance, as keeping the displays and trail in shape with outdoor art requires a lot of work to keep them looking good. Kostelnik said this is why they have the vote and awards half way through the display cycle, as the art would suffer if it had to wait until the end of August for selection.

All of the art will remain on display until August 28. Kostelnik pointed out the trail is lined with wood chips and is soft to walk on and cautioned people to not wear open toed shoes. A red-tailed fox was also seen on the trail Saturday afternoon, so walkers should exhibit care in the outdoors.
