BessemerBessemer City Clerk Jim Trudgeon informed the Daily Globe the ballot for the November election for city council members will be blank, with five open slots to be filled by write-in candidates.

Because of an error in election calendar usage, Trudgeon admitted the filing deadline for prospective city council members was erroneously listed as Aug. 9, when in reality it was July 25.

According to Trudgeon, as a result no one filed for the city council election, which means the city election will involve write-in candidates only for the five council positions.

To rectify the mistake, the ballots in November will be blank, with five slots for write-in candidates.

Anyone running as a write-in candidate must file a declaration no later than Oct. 27 by 4 p.m. If an individual has not submitted the proper declaration to run as a write-in, any votes cast for him will not count.
