SAXON, Wis. - The Luoma family of Saxon knew a cow named Sara was ready to give birth this month.

They had no idea the blessed event would come at the Iron County Fair this past weekend.

Sara gave birth to Missy around 4:50 a.m. on Saturday in the cattle barn. The birth was discovered by the patriarch of the Luoma family, Eugene Luoma, who fittingly serves on the fair board and has been involved with the fair for decades.

His son, David, and grandson, Matthew, also tended to the cattle during the fair, giving special attention to the new arrival and her mother.

Eugene Luoma checked on the cattle early that morning and found the calf was still in the placenta.

"It would have been nice if she would have given birth while people were walking through. That would have been something for them to see," he said.

Sara was born on April 13, 2006.

The Luomas are Wall Street cattle barons, as that's the name of the gravel road that extends past the farm where their beef cattle are raised in a quiet setting.

In other words, cattle stocks were up early Saturday on Wall Street.
